October Happenings

Well, we haven't posted much in October because there really hasn't been anything to post about this month. John has worked every single day, including Saturday and Sunday, since September 21st, so he and I really haven't done much together. In fact, I haven't seen him awake since Sunday. He's in the middle of his crazy catalog time, and while this is his third year of craziness, it hasn't gotten easier for me. Let's face it, I'm just not that great at entertaining myself. I've been pretty busy with work, too. I've been preparing for a couple of trials. I've also been putting a lot of thought into heading out and running, but I haven't been very good about it. This could be a problem since I'm running another half in San Antonio on November 15th. I did run in the Trick or Treat Trot last weekend. I wasn't feeling well, so my time was terrible, but I had a good time watching all the runners in costume. Hopefully we will have more interesting happenings to post about once John resurfaces from work.

Apple Picking

Three friends and I made the drive to Kuipers Family Farm in the far western suburbs to pick apples. My main motivation for going was the donuts, and I wasn't disappointed there (in fact, I have subsisted entirely on donuts so far today). The whole experience was really fun -- the people that run the place are so nice and knowledgeable and all the different activities (pumpkin patch, hay rides, donut eating, cider drinking) are very fun and fall-ish. There were really only two varieties available for picking today, and I got 1.25 pecks of a combination of Empire and Golden Delicious. So now I just have to figure out what to make. I'm thinking an apple pie or crisp. But first, I have to take a nap! Getting up early on Saturdays is rough!

Creepy Johnny Appleseed Animatron thing.

Lift and twist.
