Not Much Going On, So Here's Simon Again

His sailor collar got turned around, so it kind of looks like a bib, but otherwise he's looking pretty good!

Hit Some Balls

John here. I have been playing a lot of Wii Golf lately, so I tried out the real thing on Sunday. The driving range was really nice, two levels! So I waited a little longer and finally got a spot on the lower level in the shade. The Wii must have worked, because I appear to be pretty good even after 2 years of not playing. The plastic tee was a little high so that interfered with my driving a bit. About three times, I whacked the tee just under the ball and the ball didn't even fall off! Amazing. Maybe I'll actually play a round soon!

Liana's Early 30th Birthday Celebration!

On Saturday night, Liana, Kristin, and I celebrated Liana's big 3-0. Her real birthday is this Friday, but we thought we'd get the party started a little early. We began the evening at some Mexican restaurant in Boystown. Despite going there several times, none of us even know what it's called. Their margaritas are the best! Then we headed over to Southport for the Summer on Southport festival and danced to fun 80s and 90s tribute bands. After that, we hit some bars in Lakeview before calling it a night. I am definitely too old to stay out past midnight - I turn into a pumpkin! Anyway, it was so much fun. Happy 30th, Liana!

Feliz Cumpleanos a Ti!

Sweaty Dance Party

I Survived!

I made it through my first week of work! It was actually a really great week. I've got tons to learn, and it seems to take me an inordinate amount of time to do anything, but I think I will really enjoy it!
We've had a really busy weekend. We had dinner with family friends Chris and DeeDee Bernard on Friday night at a really great restaurant called Crofton on Wells. It was one of the best meals we've had since moving here - delicious! On Saturday I went out with girlfriends Liana and Kristen to celebrate Liana's 30th birthday (pictures to come). We went to a fun street fest and danced all night to 80s music. Street fests are one of the best parts about summer in Chicago. Today I went to high tea at the Ritz with my brunch group. It was delicious and really fun to catch up with my girls. Picture below...

First Day at New Job!

When I was little, my mom would always take a picture of me on my first day of school. This continued through high school, and she even made me have roommates take pictures of me on the first day of each year of college and John take pictures of me on the first day of each year of law school. So, we thought we would continue that tradition by taking a picture of me on my first day of being a "real" lawyer. Sure, I've been a lawyer for three years, but this is my first day as a true practicing lawyer.

My first day went well. I freaked out for the first half because I really didn't have tons to do, but I started getting work in the afternoon (and began to freak out about how hard it was). This will definitely be a lifestyle change for me, as the hours will be much longer and working with other attorneys is totally different than working with judges and court personnel. But, I'm very excited for this new phase in my life. Wish me luck!

Happy Birthday to John!

Today is John's 29th birthday! We celebrated last night by eating at Sweets and Savories in Lincoln Park, but we had yummy birthday cake today. John wanted chocolate cake from Costco, and the smallest size they had was a cake that serves 45 people, so he will definitely be taking some cake to work tomorrow! For those of you who haven't been fortunate enough to have had cake from Costco, it's delicious! It's super-rich, though -- I think I'll be popping Tums for the rest of the week!

I think we're going to take it easy for the rest of John's big day. For now I just think he's planning on enjoying his last birthday in his 20s.

Last Day of Work

Yesterday was my last day of work in the Domestic Relations Division. Leaving has been really bittersweet, as I've made such wonderful friends in the Division. The good news is, the law firm I've joined practices exclusively matrimonial law, so I will be in court often and see all my court friends! I start Monday and am really nervous. Change is really difficult, especially when you're leaving a job you really enjoy. Fortunately (or unfortunately), certain events over the past month have made my clerkship job utterly miserable, so it's made it a little easier to leave. I want to thank all my friends in the Division for taking me in and treating me like family, especially Debbie, Nairee, and Nila. I'll miss you guys!

Addiction

Oh, and another reason we've been so lax about posting lately is because John downloaded Dr. Mario for the Wii and I haven't been able to tear myself away for the past few days. I think I might have a problem...

Happy Belated Birthday, America!

So, we're a little late posting our 4th of July wishes. We didn't do much over the holiday weekend - just a lot of relaxing and enjoying the weather. John dragged me to a water park in the forest preserve, and even though my attitude was terrible about it, we had a really fun time. In fact, we might go back this weekend for John's birthday.

Also, our friends Kate and Brandon from Kansas City were in town visiting Kate's brother, so we met up with them for dinner and drinks. It's always fun seeing good ol' college friends. Now that nearly everyone is married, we don't have weddings as an excuse to get together. So we definitely need to take a trip to KC soon to catch up with our college friends. Hope everyone had a fun and safe 4th!
